Where to Go and What to Do

Tay Neuk is a fantastic location for walkers and hikers, with easy access to short or longer walks along the banks of the Tay, through ancient woodlands such as the famous Hermitage with its Victorian follies, or up the nearby wooded hills if you want something more demanding. There are 8 way-marked trails covering a total of almost 36 miles of paths and tracks close by.

For golf enthusiasts, an excellent selection of 18 hole and 9 hole golf courses are within easy reach, one of the very best locations is less than a couple of miles from our holiday home: an 18 hole, par 70 heathland/parkland course with spectacular views and good bar meals for visitors to enjoy.

There is also a charmingly challenging putting green 12 miles away, guaranteed to amuse and arouse a competitive spirit, whether you can putt or not! Perthshire boasts one of the very best mixes of golf available in Scotland, so you are spoiled for choice.

Explore castles and historic houses, hike in the hills, nature-watch (deer feed and ospreys nest nearby and there are plenty more species to spot), browse local shops, pony-trek, sample a local real ale and tap your feet to some authentic fiddle music played by talented, beloved local musicians, enjoy a classical concert at Dunkeld Cathedral on a summer’s evening; catch a theatre play (Pitlochry theatre has highly popular seasons), cycle for miles, or simply relax amidst these glorious tree-clad surroundings and absorb it all gently while you unwind. Some good places to eat out, whether it’s fine dining, a pub lunch, a tasty curry, a pot of tea with home baking, or a quick pre-theatre supper.

If the weather defeats you, there are indoor options: antiques centre, House of Bruar, castle and palaces, or have a swim or steam at leisure facilities close by.

And if all those suggestions still aren’t enough, there are other villages and towns to visit: Blairgowrie, Aberfeldy and Pitlochry, to name three, which offer further pastimes.

The small visitor information centre is conveniently just along the road from the property. Their helpful staff will arm you with ideas, maps and directions. There are also maps, books and a good selection of information leaflets in the cottage for you to browse through at your leisure.
